Your official Syracuse University email account has been established in a system called SUmail. SUmail is managed by the University and utilizes Microsoft's cloud services.

Current information about SUmail and Microsoft's cloud services will be posted here whenever it becomes available. This is information you may want to know any time you access the Microsoft log-in page. We recommend you use this page as your entry to SUmail so that you get the latest system information and status every time you access your email. Bookmark this page, not the Microsoft page.
First Timers: Before you can begin using SUmail you must activate your Syracuse University NetID, your unique personal identifier that provides access to the University’s computing systems and network. If you haven’t activated your NetID, visit
http://netid.syr.edu. Your official SU email address consists of your activated NetID followed by “syr.edu”: NetID@syr.edu
When you click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page you will leave this SU web site and enter Microsoft's site. When asked for your "Microsoft account" or user name, use your official SU email address (NetID@syr.edu). Use the same password you set up for your SU NetID.
PROTECT YOURSELF: Don’t share your password with anybody, including your peers, friends, and family members. Nobody at Syracuse University, including Information Technology and Services (ITS), will ever ask for your password. Do not respond to any requests to reveal your password or other private information, including online and email requests. Create a strong password, change your password often, and report to ITS if anyone is using your account without permission. Treat your password like the PIN for your ATM card – as your secret!
Latest SUmail News and Advice:
SUmail is being upgraded!
Sometime this summer, Microsoft will upgrade SUmail to its latest cloud environment, which offers increased message size and mailbox storage. To ensure continued access to your SUmail mailbox, please:
- Check your SUmail account often this Summer. We’ll notify you by email of the specific date of the upgrade once Microsoft sets the date. We’ll also provide you with details about the upgrade.
- Bookmark a link to https://answers.syr.edu/x/6oSBAQ. As it becomes available from Microsoft, we will post information here on the upgrade and provide checklists of things you will need to do before and after the upgrade, including information on managing your passwords in the new Microsoft cloud environment.
- Bookmark a link to this page (http://sumail.syr.edu) so you can access SUmail from a web browser. If you have been logging into Outlook.com to access SUmail, it may no longer work after the upgrade. Similarly, if you use your smartphone, tablet, or email software (i.e., Apple Mail, Thunderbird) to access SUmail, it may need to be reconfigured after the upgrade.

The SU email policy requires that all official University e-mail communications be sent to your @syr.edu email address. If you choose to re-direct your @syr.edu e-mail to another account, such as @gmail.com, or @yahoo.com, you do so at your own risk.
